Background

The Victoria Community Health Co-op (VCHC) is a community owned wellness and health co-operative, established in 2008. For two years we have provided wellness and outreach services to our member-owners and the wider community. We are now establishing our first physical location, the Co-op Community Health Centre at James Bay (CCHC).

Happy Summer everyone! We have had an exciting past month beginning with our Annual General Meeting and closing with the finalizations of negotiation for our new health center space!

AGM
On May 15th, we held our 3rd Annual General Meeting, which was well attended by over 65 members and many community guests. In addition to an update of current health co-op activities and our yearly review, our membership passed three motions: to accept a 20$ annual membership fee; to allow the creation of capitalization shares; and to support our Board’s efforts at negotiating a new health center space with James Bay Community Project in their building at 547 Michigan St. We also acclaimed our new Board of Directors. Our new Board consists of:

Community Wellness Clinic Cancelled

Sadly, the VCHC Community Wellness Clinics have been cancelled until further notice.

After 18 months of being so generous with their space, the Alembic Healing Arts Centre needs their clinic for their own Japanese acupuncture program. Many, many thanks to Todd Howard, James Christian, Pacific Rim College and the Alembic Healing Arts Centre for providing us with a home until now.

The Victoria Community Health Co-operative (VCHC) is seeking Board candidates who are committed to guiding us to three-fold excellence and who have expertise in at least one of the areas:

1. quality of our service in health care and wellness
2. operation of the business aspects of our co-operative
3. adherence to, and advancement of, the co-operative values and principles

Attached below is the 2010-2011 Board Application form. All members who wish to be on the Board must first complete the application form and send it in by May 5th. Candidates must then arrange a short orientation session before the AGM where elections for the board will be held.
