The VCHC Website is more than just a pamphlet or a place to find out about VCHC events.
The VCHC Website is also a meeting place of members and a place to stay connected with what is happening in your co-op.
Some areas of the site are only accessible to members, such as the Co-op Records (http://victoriahealthcooperative.ca/content/legal-policy). Over the coming months, you will find new features on the site, such as discussion forums, an information database and a community events calendar.
As a member of VCHC, it is important that you join the site, use the site (make it your home page!) and make sure it is working for you. If you have any suggestions, let the webmaster know (webmaster@victoriahealthcooperative.ca).
Become a Member First
Joining the Website is not the same as becoming a member of the Co-op. By becoming a member of the co-op, you will not only have access to more information on the website, but you will be part of assuring the success of our vision, mission and mandate.
How to set up a Website Login account.
1. On the left hand side of the screen there will be a link called: Create new account. Click on the link. This will allow you to create your user account. Due to an overwhelming amount of 'spam' accounts, we ask that you use your real name.
2. If you are already a member of the co-op, select "Join Members". If you want to be a member of specific groups, select the group you want to join, such as the Education Committee.
3. Fill out any other personal information that you wish.
4. Hit submit. Once you've done that, the website administrator will get an email notifying her that someone has applied to open an account. You will get an email giving you your login ID and password (which may be really strange). That login ID and password won't work until your account has been approved. It should be done within 48 hours.
5. Once your membership on the website has been approved, you will get an email from the website administrator notifying you that your account is now active. If not, contact the website administrator directly (webmaster@victoriahealthcooperative.ca).
6. Login to your account following the link or using the login box on the lefthand side bar.
Changing your Password
If you follow the link in the email that you received about your account, you will be asked to change your password immediately. If you log in using the password that you've been given, and want to change your password, you need to go to the link on the left hand side ("My account") and then select "Edit" along the row just below the top banner.
Permissions and Site Access
The VCHC Website is building using Drupal, a powerful Open-Source Content Management System that facilitates the creating, organization, manipulation and removal of information in many forms (plain text, images, documents, etc) and making it accessible via the internet. Some of this information is publicly available, and some requires 'permissions'. The VCHC site has various levels of permissions, making some information available only to those who have certain roles within the co-op. You will be given permissions by the website administrator to view, add or edit certain content based on your role within the co-op (ie. non-member, member, board of director, practitioner, website administrator).
This is different from belonging to a group within the site. When you registered for the website, you were given the opportunity to join specific groups. Some are open to all, others require approval by the groups moderator.
If you don't join a group when you sign up, you can still do so later. On the left side panel of the website, you will find a block with your own personal navigation menu, which includes several links, including "My account" and "Groups". When you click on groups, you will find a list of groups that you can request membership in.
