The purpose of this workshop series is to increase the capacity of vulnerable and marginalized individuals in the Victoria area to make healthy choices in different aspects of their lives. This program will be implemented through interactive presentations delivered in co-operation with community partners. Each workshop will begin with a short presentation by each of two experts in the given workshop topic, followed by hands-on learning opportunities, and then a discussion with the whole group together again.
In collaboration with First Metropolitan Church, we will hold the first series of workshops starting November 3, every Tuesday afternoon for 7 weeks, and geared towards a senior audience. Similar and/or repeat sessions are being planned in different locations for more vulnerable and marginalized people during the winter/early spring.
The sessions are:
- Choices for Healthy Money Management
- Choices for Healthy Recreation and Exercise
- Choices for Healthy Eating
- Choices for Healthy Sleep and Relaxation
- Choices for Healthy Friendships/Relationships
- Choices for Healthy Shopping
- Choices for Healthy Transport
- Choices for Healthy Living for people living with Addictions
- Choices for Healthy Work and Workplaces
At the end of each session, participants will:
*Be confident that they can make healthy choices
*Have increased knowledge about the choices available, regardless of age, budget, or physical and mental ability
*Have the skills necessary to make healthy choices
VCHC is able to provide these workshops to all who are interested thanks to the generosity of VanCity, community partners and expert presenters.
